Lush green paddy fields of Kuttanad, Alleppey
Kuttanad is a unique area in Alleppey district of Kerala.
The area lies some 1-2 meter below sea level. The area is a bunch of disparate farming blocks, secured by not so strong bunds. Each year the farmers pump out water from the paddy fields and conduct cultivation of paddy. After harvesting the area is again submerged in water, either from rain or from the tributaries of Pampa River. A Highway goes from Alleppey to Changanacherry right through the middle of the paddy fields. It’s a stunning scene to see. Enjoy the video.
