Implementation of Court Orders in Churches Disputes should be Done Peacefully: Syro-Malabar Synod
It is highly distressing and unfortunate that, as a part of implementing the verdict of the Court, the taking possession of the churches belonging to the Jacobite Church involves conflicts, violent actions and the violation of Covid-related restrictions.
As the society is facing a serious crisis because of the pandemic, people and the police have to show extreme caution and concern. Authorities and the people involved have to respect the decisions of the court and obey them as we are functioning in a democratic system based on the laws of the Constitution. Although there is the order of the Court, the concerned parties can have the freedom to make their own compromises taking into account the peace and the public good of the society. The use of this freedom is also a Christian value. Everyone has to be aware that the interpretation of the law and its implementation should ensure to bring about peace and love.
If the strict implementation of the law within a tight time-limit would create problems, it is expedient to slow the process of execution. If more time is needed for the execution of the order, the authorities and the people involved have the responsibility to convince the court of the need for the extension of the implementation. As people are suffering and experiencing unbelievable hardship and loss of life, all the interested parties have to cooperate sincerely in creating a peaceful atmosphere, showing restraint and self-control and avoiding all kinds of violence in their actions.
