കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയുടെ സഹായമെത്രാനായി ബഹു. തോമസ് ആനിമൂട്ടിൽ അച്ചനെ സീറോമലബാർസഭയുടെ മേജർ ആർച്ചുബിഷപ് മാർ റാഫേൽ തട്ടിൽ പിതാവു നിയമിച്ചു. 2026 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 17 മുതൽ കാക്കനാട് മൗണ്ട് സെൻ്റ് തോമസിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച മെത്രാൻസിനഡാണ് പരിശുദ്ധ പിതാവ് ലെയോ പതി നാലാമൻ മാർപാപ്പയുടെ അംഗീകാരത്തോടെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്. ഇതു സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള ഔദ്യോഗിക പ്രഖ്യാപനം ഇന്ന് ഇറ്റാലിയൻ സമയം ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക 12 മണിക്കു വത്തിക്കാനിലും ഇന്ത്യൻ സമയം ഉച്ചതിരിഞ്ഞു 3.30നു കാക്കനാട് മൗണ്ട് സെൻ്റ് തോമസിലും നടത്തി.
സഭയുടെ ആസ്ഥാനകാര്യാലയത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ പൊതുസമ്മേളനത്തിൽ മേജർ ആർച്ചുബിഷപ്പ് മാർ റാഫേൽ തട്ടിൽ പിതാവാണ് ഇതു സംബന്ധിച്ച പ്രഖ്യാപനം നടത്തിയത്. ബഹു. തോമസ് ആനിമൂട്ടിൽ അച്ചനെ കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയുടെ സഹായ മെത്രാനായി നിയമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള മേജർ ആർച്ചുബിഷപ്പിൻ്റെ കല്പ്പന മേജർ ആർക്കി എപ്പിസ്കോപ്പൽ ചാൻസലർ ഫാ. എബ്രഹാം കാവിൽപുരയിടത്തിൽ വായിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് മേജർ ആർച്ചുബിഷപ്പും കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതാ മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്ത അഭിവന്ദ്യ മാർ മാത്യു മൂലക്കാട്ടുംചേർന്നു ബഹു. തോമസ് ആനിമൂട്ടിൽ അച്ചനെ മെത്രാൻ്റെ സ്ഥാനചിഹ്ന ങ്ങൾ അണിയിച്ചു.
അതിരൂപതാ സഹായമെത്രാന്മാരായ മാർ ജോസഫ് പണ്ടാരശ്ശേ രിയും ഗീവർഗീസ് മാർ അപ്രേമുംചേർന്നു ബൊക്കെ നല്കി അനുമോദിച്ചു. കല്യാൺ അതിരൂപതയുടെ മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്ത അഭിവന്ദ്യ മാർ സെബാസ്റ്റ്യൻ വാണിയപുരയ്ക്ക ൽ ആശംസകളർപ്പിച്ചു സംസാരിച്ചു. നിയുക്ത മെത്രാൻ്റെ മറുപടിപ്രസംഗത്തിനും മേജർ ആർച്ചുബിഷപ്പിന്റെ പ്രാർഥനക്കും ആശീർവാദത്തിനുംശേഷം തദവസരത്തിൽ സന്നി ഹിതരായിരുന്ന സിനഡുപിതാക്കന്മാരും മേജർ ആർക്കി എപ്പിസ്കോപ്പൽ കുരിയായിലെ അംഗങ്ങളും നിയുക്ത മെത്രാന് ആശംസകൾ നേർന്നു.
കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയിലെ പയ്യാവൂർ സെൻ്റ് ആൻസ് ക്നാനായ ഇടവകയിൽ പരേത രായ ജോസഫ് ഏലി ദമ്പതികളുടെ മകനായി 1962 ജനുവരി 13 നു ജനിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിനുശേഷം കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയുടെ മൈനർ സെമിനാരിൽ വൈദികപരിശീലനം ആരംഭിച്ചു. മംഗലാപുരം സെന്റ് ജോസഫ് സെമി നാരിയിൽ നിന്നു തത്വശാസ്ത്ര ദൈവശാസ്ത്രപഠനങ്ങൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ അദ്ദേഹം 1989 ഏപ്രിൽ 13-ാം തീയതി അഭിവന്ദ്യ മാർ കുര്യാക്കോസ് കുന്നശ്ശേരി പിതാവിൽ നിന്നു പൗരോഹിത്വം സ്വീകരിച്ചു.
പൗരോഹിത്വസ്വീകരണത്തിനുശേഷം കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപത യിലെ പുളിഞ്ഞാൽ ഇടവകയിൽ വികാരിയായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചതിനുശേഷം ഉപരി പഠനത്തിനായി പോയ അദ്ദേഹം റോമിലെ ഹോളി ക്രോസ്സ് സർവകലാശാലയിൽനിന്നു കാനൻനിയമത്തിൽ ബിരുദവും അമേരിക്കയിലെ ലോസ് ഏഞ്ചൽസിൽനിന്നു ക്ലിനി ക്കൽ പാസ്റ്ററൽ എഡ്യൂക്കേഷനിൽ ഉപരിപഠനവും പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. തുടർന്ന് ഉഴവൂർ, കടുത്തുരുത്തി എന്നീ ഇടവകകളിൽ വികാരിയായി ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തു. മാർ കുര്യാ ക്കോസ് കുന്നശ്ശേരിയുടെ സെക്രട്ടറി, കോട്ടയം രൂപത പ്രൊക്യുറേറ്റർ, രൂപതാ ചാൻ സലർ, കണ്ണൂർ ബാർമറിയം പാസ്ററൽ സെന്റർ ഡയറക്ടർ, രൂപതാ ട്രിബ്യൂണൽ നോട്ടറി, കാരിത്താസ് ആശുപത്രിയുടെ ഡയറകർ, രൂപത പ്രസ്ബിററൽ കൗൺസിൽ സെക്രട്ടറി എന്നീ നിലകളിലും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
നിലവിൽ അതിരൂപതയുടെ പ്രോട്ടോസിൻചെല്ലൂസായി ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്തുവരുമ്പോഴാണ് പുതിയ നിയോഗം അദ്ദേഹ ത്തിനു ലഭിക്കുന്നത്. മലയാളത്തിന് പുറമേ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്, ഇറ്റാലിയൻ ഭാഷകളിൽ പ്രാവീണ്യം ഉണ്ട്. നിയുക്ത മെത്രാൻ്റെ സ്ഥാനാരോഹണ തീയതി പിന്നീട്

Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Kottayam
Rev. Fr. Thomas Animoottil has been appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Kottayam by Hiss Beatitude Mar Raphael Thattil, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, following his election by the Synod of Bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church. The election took place during the Second Session of the XXXIV Synod, which began at Mount St Thomas, Kakkanad, on 17 August 2026. The appointment was officially announced simultaneously today at 12 noon in the Vatican and at 3.30 pm at Mount St Thomas, Kakkanad.
Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil made the announcement during a general assembly held at the Major Archiepiscopal Curia of the Syro-Malabar Church. Rev. Fr. Abraham Kavilpurayidathil, the Major Archiepiscopal Chancellor, read the decree of appointment issued by the Major Archbishop. The Major Archbishop together with Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kottayam, then presented the episcopal insignia to the Bishop-elect. The Auxiliary Bishops of Kottayam, Mar Joseph Pandarasseril and Geevarghese Mar Aphrem, presented bouquets and felicitated him. Mar Sebastian Vaniyapurackal, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kalyan delivered the felicitation address. Following the response of the Bishop-elect and the prayer and blessing of the Major Archbishop, the Synod Fathers and members of the Major Archiepiscopal Curia present on the occasion feliciated the Bishop-elect.
Fr. Thomas Animoottil was born on 13 January 1962, in the family of the late Joseph and Eli, belonging to St Anne’s Parish, Payyavoor, in the Archeparchy of Kottayam. After completing his schooling, he entered the Minor Seminary of the Archeparchy of Kottayam. He pursued his philosophical and theological formation at St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore, and was ordained a priest by Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry on 13 April 1989. Following his priestly ordination, he served as the vicar of Pulinjal parish before proceeding to Rome for higher studies. He obtained Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome, and subsequently pursued advanced studies in Clinical Pastoral Education in Los Angeles, United States. He later served as the vicar of Uzhavoor and Kaduthuruthy parishes.
During his priestly ministry, Fr. Animoottil has held several important responsibilities, including Secretary to Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, Procurator and Chancellor of the Archeparchy, Director of the Barmariam Pastoral Centre in Kannur, Notary of the Archeparchial Tribunal, Director of Caritas Hospital, and Secretary of the Archeparchial Presbyteral Council. He is currently serving as the Pro-Protosyncellus of the Archeparchy of Kottayam. He is proficient in English and Italian.
The date of the episcopal ordination of the Bishop-elect will be announced later.
