ഒരു തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് മാത്രം അല്ല — ഒരു തലമുറയുടെ ദിശ
കേരളം വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിലും ആരോഗ്യത്തിലും സാമൂഹിക വികസനത്തിലും മുന്നിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന സംസ്ഥാനമാണ്. എന്നാൽ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ആന്തരിക ആരോഗ്യസ്ഥിതി പുതിയ ആശങ്കകൾ ഉയർത്തുന്നു. ജനനനിരക്ക് കുറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. കുടുംബങ്ങൾ ചെറുതാകുന്നു. യുവജനങ്ങൾ പ്രത്യാശ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നു. ലഹരി വ്യാപിക്കുന്നു. വയോധികർ ഏകാന്തരാകുന്നു. മാരകരോഗ ചികിത്സ സാധാരണ കുടുംബങ്ങളെ സാമ്പത്തികമായി തകർക്കുന്നു. പരിസ്ഥിതിയും പൊതുസുരക്ഷയും പുതിയ ഭീഷണികൾ നേരിടുന്നു.
ഇത്തരം സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് വെറും അധികാരമാറ്റത്തിനുള്ള പ്രക്രിയയല്ല —
സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ഭാവിദിശ നിർണ്ണയിക്കുന്ന അവസരമാണ്.

ഗർഭസ്ഥ ശിശുവിന്റെ സുരക്ഷ, കുട്ടിയുടെ വളർച്ച, യുവജനത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശ, കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥിരത, രോഗിയുടെ സംരക്ഷണം, വയോധികന്റെ മാന്യത — ഇവയെല്ലാം വേർതിരിച്ച മേഖലകൾ അല്ല; ഒരേ സാമൂഹിക തന്ത്രത്തിന്റെ ഘടകങ്ങളാണ്.
കുടുംബാസൂത്രണം എന്നത് കുട്ടികളെ കുറയ്ക്കൽ എന്ന ആശയം ഒരു തെറ്റിദ്ധാരണയാണ്. യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ കുടുംബത്തെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വത്തോടെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുകയും പിന്തുണയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ് അതിന്റെ അർത്ഥം.
